ELEY - Helen A. (nee Hagan) Love, July 24, 1922 - November 14, 2007. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Helen at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home, Regina, SK. She was predeceased by her parents Olive Florence Hodgins (1992) and John Wesley Hagan (1958) and her first husband John "Jack" Love (2000). Helen is survived by her husband Harold Eley; children Arla (Phillip) Robinson of Denare Beach, Robert (Deb), Brian (Denise) and Reta Love all of Regina; grandchildren Jill (Greg) Wahl of Denare Beach and Tanner Love of Regina; great granddaughters Tasha and Taryn Wahl of Regina; Harold's family Don (Bonnie Galbraith) of Regina and Dave (Deb) and family of Calgary, AB; her cousins; Jack's sister-in-law Irene Love of Winnipeg, MB and Jack's nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the staff of Santa Maria for the excellent care of Helen. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox Metropolitan Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK. FLEURY - William John Stewart passed away at Cottonwoods Nursing Home in Kelowna on Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the age of 89. Stewart was born in Stony Beach, Saskatchewan on July 11, 1911 to Emma and John Fleury. He married Vila Chapman on November 7, 1934 and they farmed in Stony Beach, Saskatchewan until they moved toLangley, British Columbia in 1974 and retired to Westbank in 1983. Stewart is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Vila and his sister, Mary Jane (Jenny) of Summerland, BritishColumbia and one son, Keith of Stony Beach, Saskatchewan. Stewart is survived by one daughter Belva (Gayle) Wiggins of Winnipeg, Manitoba; one son Dale (Audrey) Fleury of Calgary, Alberta; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many friends in Westbank and Kelowna and also on the prairies. A service will be held at Regina MemorialGardens Cemetery, Hwy #1 East on Saturday, March 31 at 1:30 PM. Cremated remains will be intermed in the Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
HAGERTY - Archie Stevenson Hagerty, 87, of Moose Jaw, went peacefully to be with his Lord on September 16, 2001. Born at Stony Beach on July 21, 1914, he farmed many years in that area but made his home in Moose Jaw with Annie, his loving and devoted wife of 54 years. Predeceased by his parents, Andrew Edmond and Elizabeth Mae, and his sister, Verna Young, he is survived by his wife, Annie, and five children - James (Merle), Gold River, B.C.; Shelda (Jim) Strom, Moose Jaw; Ronald (Sharon), Fort Francis, ON; Margaret, Moose Jaw; and Ross (Nadine), Moose Jaw. He will also be greatly missed by his brother, Evan (Emma), Stony Beach, 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Archie loved competitive games and enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends. His interest in farming remained strong even in retirement. He was a faithful member of Hillcrest Apostolic Church and had a heart for missions. The Funeral Service will be held at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church on Friday, September 21, 2001, at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Allan Buchanan and Rev. Vern Roste officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Close friends are invited to join the family in a time of visitation at Parkview Funeral Chapel between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Gideons would be appreciated. As part of the Living Legacy Planting Program, Parkview Funeral Chapel will have a tree planted in Wakamow Valley in Archie's memory. HAGERTY - George Andrew "Andy", formerly of the Stony Beach district, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2002, at Providence Place, Moose Jaw. Andy was born April 6, 1911. He attended school, married Isabel Baldock in October 1938, raised two children and farmed at Stony Beach on the land his Dad homesteaded and where his son, Larry now farms. He always enjoyed farming, community activities and the company of his friends. Following the passing of his first wife, Andy later married Mary Heron and enjoyed her family and the many new friends she introduced into his life. Predeceased by his first wife, Isabel Baldock - 1981, second wife, Mary Heron - 1998, sister, Eva Spenst, and brother, Tom Hagerty. Andy is lovingly remembered by his family, Linda (Orest) Senkiw, Larry (Fay) Hagerty, Bill Heron, Donna (Pog) Ofstedahl, Bonnie (Garry) McMorris, Jim (Luci) Heron, Bev (Bob) Johnstone, Barry (Jo) Heron, Marilee (Clint) Sanborn, Mabel (Eddie) Hickerson, one brother, Stanley; grandchildren: Michelle, Steven, Leanne (Kyle), Scott, Curtis, Bernadette, Jaime, Andrea, Kent (Kue-Lynn), Trevor, Ryan, Brendon, Leighton, Nathan, Tyrone, Brie, Cody, Dustin, Colter, Brandee, Trenna, Madison, Dave (Alyson), Ken (Bree), Bruce (Laura); great-grandchildren: Kyril, Katelynn, Emighyn; Sam, Abigail, and Avery, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. HAGGERTY - Margaret Reynolds Yvonne (nee Small) Haggerty, passed away July 5, 2000. Marge was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, May 5, 1914 and grew up in Strasbourg, Sask. She was the eldest of four children of Lester Meredith Small and Eva May Mapes (born in Ontario). The Small family moved to Regina in 1930, where Marge attended Central Collegiate, Scott Collegiate, Regina College, earning an associate in Arts Diploma, and graduated from business college. Marge and Sam Haggerty were married July 8, 1939 in Regina. They lived the first fours years of their married life in Watrous, where Sam was employed by the CBC. They then returned to the Haggerty farm in Belle Plaine, remaining there until 1962 when they moved to Regina. Marge was active for many years in the Drinkwater Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Anqet Chapter of the Daughters of the Nile. She was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to caring for her family. Marge was predeceased by her youngest daughter Catherine Laurel Collier in 1997, father (1949), mother (1978) and brother John Small (1995 in Toronto). She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Sam; two daughters, Sharon May Haggerty of London, Ontario, Linda Rae Krahn (Jake) of Regina; six grandchildren, Braden (Brenda) and Megan Haggerty (Gregory Cargnelli) of Vancouver, Mona Krahn of Banff, Michael and Cynthia Krahn of Regina and John Haggerty of London; two great grandchildren, Samuel and Ivo Cargnelli of Vancouver; sister Lois Vivian Reid (Dr. R.N.) of Regina and brother Bruce Small of Burnaby, BC. HAGGERTY - William George Floyd. On Tuesday, December 5, 2000, William George Floyd "Bill", passed away at home in Lumsden, just five days before his 95th birthday. Bill was born at Belle Plain in 1905. Predeceased by his parents John and Jennie; two brothers Glen (Rita) and Gordon (Jean) Haggerty, Bill is survived by his loving wife Anna; son Garry; sisters Alta Read and Rosella Wallace; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill farmed in the Stoney Beach - Pense areas, retiring to Lumsden in 1968. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He and Anna spent twenty-six winters in Weslaco, Texas. He enjoyed gardening and reading. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave. Interment at a later date.
HALL - Irene May. It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Irene May Hall, age 80 yrs. on October 13/01. Born May 24, 1921 in Gilroy, Sask. She grew up in Stony Beach, Sask. and then moved to Moose Jaw. She served in W.W.II with the C.W.A.C. She and her husband Doug moved to Regina in 1971, where they resided until her passing. Irene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who lived life fully including her love for curling and her many years of enjoyment at their cottage at Regina beach where she tended her flowers. Predeceased by her mother Beatrice, her father William, brother Charles and sister Joanne. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of 53 years Douglas, daughter Joanne (Roger) Aldag, Regina Beach, Sask. Grandchildren Kelly, Edmonton, Alta.; Sherri, Fort MacMurray, Alta. and Kristopher, Kelowna, B.C. Sister-in-law Irene Short, Moose Jaw. Nephew's Dave, Vancouver; Keith, Regina; nieces Deb, Regina; Daphne, Vancouver; Denise, Fairmont, B.C. and very special `family' Nora and Graham Barker, Regina and their children Zack and Alex. Though she struggled with many illnesses over the past 4 years she always remained strong, determined and optimistic and always shared a smile with everyone. HARLTON - Jack Everett. On Thursday, September 23, 2004, at the age of 82 years, Jack Everett Harlton, beloved husband of Ruby Harlton passed away in Union Hospital. Born in Stony Beach on April 21, 1922 he farmed with his family until his passion for flying and freedom encouraged him to join the air force. After serving on Wellington Bombers in WWII he returned as a R.C.A.F. Flight Lieutenant Jack and a surviving POW to continue his love for aviation by co-founding Farmers Flying Service a small commercial airport just north of Moose Jaw. After serious considerations of heading north as a bush pilot Jack instead took over the family farm settling into the Stony Beach, Pense, and Belle Plaine community, flying as a crop sprayer and member of the Flying Farmers. Jack was predeceased by his mother Mildred Marjorie, father Earl George, brothers Turner Jones and Matford Moses, and adored daughter Brenda Jean. He was survived by his compassionate wife of 60 years Ruby, brother Jerry Robert and two sons Douglas George and Charles Gordon, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Special thanks to the dedicated doctors and nurses of the Union hospital. In keeping with Jack's wishes, no funeral has been arranged. A private family gravesite service and interment will take place at the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery.
HOLMES - William Peter passed away on Thursday, April 7th, 2011 at the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw, after a brief illness. Bill, at the age of 82, beloved husband of Margaret for over 53 years. Loving father of Lorne (Lisa) of Stony Beach, SK, Michael (Cheryl), of Stony Beach, SK, and Neil (Sherrie) of Boise, Idaho. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren Shaun, Elizabeth, Daniel and Erik, and by his nieces Sharon and Janice Baldock. He is predeceased by his sister Eileen Andreas. Bill was born on March 14th, 1929 on the family farm near Stony Beach, SK., to John and Jane Holmes. He grew up farming with his parents until taking the farm over after his marriage to Margaret in July of 1958. Bill and Margaret raised their 3 sons on the farm and received the Century Family Farm Award in 2008. They retired to Moose Jaw in 2009, but farming was Bill's life and passion and he remained involved. A Memorial Tea will be held on Friday, April 15th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Parkview Funeral Chapel, 474 Hochelaga St. W. Moose Jaw, with an interment to follow at Stony Beach Cemetery.
HUBER - Myrtle (nee Trumbley) Young (1920 - 2008). Myrtle passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by her first husband, Pat Young of Stony Beach in 1962; her parents, Pete and Maggie Trumbley; brother John and his wife, Gertie; and baby brother Douglas. Myrtle is survived by her loving husband, Johnny; daughter Shirley (Mike) Toth and family; son Wayne (Debbie) Young and family; four grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; brother Roy (Wilma) Trumbley; sister Ruby (Ollie) Howard; as well as several nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. Myrtle farmed in the Stony Beach, Serath areas and resided in Regina for many years. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2015 4th Avenue North, Regina. Interment in Serath Cemetery at a later date.
HUGHES - John Robert "Bob" Hughes of Rouleau, SK passed away January 31, 2004 at the age of 81. Bob was born and raised at Stony Beach, SK. During WWII he was a pilot in the RCAF. After being shot down on March 31, 1944 he was a P.O.W. in Germany, returning to Canada in May 1945. Following the war he farmed at Stony Beach where two sons John and David were born from his first marriage to Marcia McLean. He later married Dorothy Smith of Mossbank, SK. They moved to their Rouleau farm with son Ron and daughter Linda in 1965 when the Stony Beach farm was sold to Kalium Potash. Bob was much involved in the Rouleau community serving in the Canadian Legion, Wheat Pool committees, Masons, Rouleau Co-op and the local rink. His main interest in his life was always in the land and all things connected with growing crops. He never completely retired and even took part in the harvest of 2003. Bob was predeceased by his father Hugh in 1962; his mother Chrystabel in 1984 and a brother Glyn in 2002. Bob is survived by his loving wife Dorothy of Rouleau; sons John and David (Judy) of Calgary, Ron (Christine) of Rouleau and daughter Linda (James) McGregor of Saskatoon; grandchildren: Erin and Danielle Hughes, Kevin, Christie and Nicholas McGregor, Melanie and Paul Hughes; one brother Leonard (Sherlie) Hughes of Mississauga, ON; sisters-in-law Maxine Hughes of Innisfail, AB, Vera Willits of Moose Jaw, SK; brotherin-law Don Smith of Mossbank, SK.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. HUNT - Elizabeth Mary (nee Read) of Wadena passed away Thursday, May 11, 2006. Mary was born March 4, 1921 to George and Laura Read in Stony Beach, SK, the eldest of 11 children. She married Fred Hunt May 22, 1943 and raised 10 children. She was predeceased by her husband Fred (1978), son Kenneth (1962), daughters, Edith (1993) and Alma (2001), three sisters, Dorothy, Verna and Laura, three brothers, Robert, William and Irvine. She is lovingly remembered by her children Al (DeeDee), Edward (Lorna), Heather (Bob Speers), George (Maggie), Victor (Shelly), Clifford (Lori), Vernon (Penny), 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother as well as numerous brother and sister in-laws, nieces nephews and friends. MACKENZIE - Doreen Elizabeth was born on October 19, 1927 at Stony Beach, SK and passed away suddenly, but peacefully at home in Kronau, SK on June 20, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband E. W. MacKenzie; sons Robert John and Bruce Grahame; as well as numerous other family members. Doreen is survived by her two loving daughters Bonnie (Kelly) and Gaylynne (Roy); grandsons Johnathon (Kerri), Lonnie (Karen), Aaron (Jenny) and Jesse; great grandchildren Teagan, Brooke, Braelyn, Maximilian and Liam. Doreen will be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews and extended families. MITCHELL - William. It is with great sadness the family of William "Bill" Mitchell, retired Moose Jaw Police Service Chief, announce his passing on May 31, 2004 at the age of 70 years. Bill is survived by Doreine, his loving wife of 50 years, his son Norman and wife Bonny of Ft. Qu'Appelle and his son Richard of Regina. In addition to his wife and sons, Bill was intensely proud of his four grandchildren: Sean of Winnipeg, Katherine of Calgary, Kelly of Charlettown and Alayne of Toronto, as well as two greatgrandchildren, Zachary and Haley. Bill is also survived by three brothers: Don and Ted of England and Jim of Moose Jaw. Bill's 35 year career as a Peace Officer began the 3rd of October, 1956 and he continued to provide tireless, dedicated service to the citizens of Moose Jaw until his retirement from the Position of Chief of Police the 31st of January 1992. Retirement from a very successful career was not enough to satisfy Bill's love for life and after departing from the Police Service; he continued to pursue his life long passion for farming on the family farm at Stony Beach. The Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Moose Jaw. Reverend Father Gerry Bauche will Preside. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will he held Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m. at the W.J.Jones & Son Funeral Home.
POTTS - Helen (nee Harlton) Baldock Potts (March 6, 1919 - March 17, 2012). On Saturday, March 17, 2012, Helen Potts passed away in the Echo Lodge Nursing Home at the age of 93 years. Mom was born on March 6, 1919 in Stony Beach, Sask. to Charles and Martha Harlton. She left the family farm to pursue nursing as a profession, graduating in 1943 from the Grey Nuns Hospital. Her training led her to England where she served her country as nursing sister in the Canadian army during part of World War II. Upon returning from the war, she married her first husband, Harvey Baldock and settled and farmed one half mile from her childhood farm. The family later moved to Regina where mom resumed her nursing career working in the case room of the Grey Nuns and later in the Alan Blair Clinic. Mom remarried after dad died in 1974, to Douglas Potts and they moved to B-say-tah Beach to establish a retirement home. Mom and Doug enjoyed their summers at B-say-tah and their many cruises during the winters. Doug's three children and her three boys led to many special family events once families were established and grandchildren arrived. The famous Baldock/Potts football game became a Thanksgiving tradition. Helen continued to live there until she was 85. Family and friends were always welcomed to share a scotch or a cup of tea with mom and to tour her flower garden. Helen was predeceased by her two husbands, Harvey Baldock and Douglas Potts; two infant brothers, Robert and Edward; her brother George Harlton; sister Ruth McGowan; and stepson Allan Potts. She is survived by her sisters Della Richardson and Martha Code; her three sons: Peter (Judy), Charles (Erika) and Shawn (Rita); Jean Baldock; grandchildren: Boe, Josh and Codie, Drew and Lindsay, Brian and Julie. Helen is also survived by stepchildren: Shirley Lapointe(Peter), Harold Potts (Donna), and Pat Potts; grandchildren: Carrie and Christa, Jill, Jody and Doug, Randall, and six great-grandchildren. In keeping with mom's wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Echo Lodge Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided, and Dr. Saunders for his patience and care over the years.
ROGNE - Lillian Marguerite late of Stony Beach, SK. passed away on February 23, 2002. Born in Dilke, SK. on October 30, 1909 and after many years in rural Saskatchewan Lillian moved to Regina in 1993. Lillian was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Marie Rogne, sisters Annie, Minnie, Helen; brothers Eric, John and twin brother Lloyd, as well as special friend Con Burton. Survived by special niece Joan (Garry Guglich) Soveran, nephews Ron (Jo) Ryerson, Milton (Carol) Rogne and Vern (Laverne) Rogne; nieces Marie (Al) McDonald and Carol Ann (David) Peterson, as well as numerous great nieces and great nephews. SKELTON - Frederick M., December 24, 1903 - May 24, 2002. It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents Fred and Agnes; sister-in-law, Joy and Henry Stephenson; two brothers-in-law, Ted and John Love. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Joan; daughter Judy (Tom) Cumbers; son Neil; four grandchildren: Cheryl (Chris Brown), Jason (Shona) Cumbers, Robert and Nancy Skelton; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Kay, Helen, Irene Love. During World War II he was in the Air Force from 1937 - 1945. He lived his life with compassion and great kindness for everyone. VEALE - Jean Isobel. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean Isobel Veale of Moose Jaw and Stony Beach. Jean passed away August 24, 2005 at the age of 85 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Andrew Lorne Veale June 5, 2001, a sister Helen in 1917, brother Lorne in 1929, brother Rea in 1986, and sister Vera in 1998. She is survived by her son, Robert, his wife Candis, and grandson Matthew of Hermiston, Oregon; brother Norman (Vivian) Laidley of Duncan, BC; sister-in-law Nell Laidley of Edmonton; sister-in-law Eugenie (Ken) Bobier of Calgary; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. WALLACE - Rosella Martha (nee Haggerty), May 21, 1910 - August 1, 2005), formerly of Stony Beach, Saskatchewan, passed away at Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw, where she has been a resident for the past 21.6 years. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wellington in 1981; her parents John and Jenny; three brothers: Bill, Glen and Gordon. She leaves to mourn her passing her sister, Alta Read; her beloved nephew Edwin (Jane) Read and their sons: Reginald, Roger (Leona) and Randall (Jody); as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews from the Wallace, Haggerty and Read Clans. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. in Rosedale Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at Parkview Funeral Chapel parking lot no later than 10:15. Rev. Allan Doerksen will officiate.
YOUNG - Clare (nee Amberson), late of Moose Jaw, long time resident of the Stony Beach District passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the age of 88 years. Clare was born in the Disley district June 19, 1916. She married Albert Young in 1936 and they farmed at Stony Beach for Forty years. Predeceased by her parents, sister, Olive and three brothers: Dean, Dave and Norman, Clare will be greatly missed by her sisters: Marg (Harve Doan), Pearl (Jack Woods), Doreen and Laverne, brother, Jack (Janet) and Don Amberson who was raised as a son and his sons: Rodney (Jo) and their family: Billy, Tommy, Raney, Johnny & Ruthy; and Jason as well as several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at the W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 12, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at the family plot, Sunset Cemetery.
YOUNG - Shawn McCoy Young (January 11, 1970 - December 15, 2010). Shawn passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a short battle with cancer. Predeceased by sister Tammy, he is survived by wife Jessie, sons Ryder and Brayden of Abbotsford, B.C. Parents Don & Janet Young of Regina, sister Lori (Gord) Pawson, nieces Demira & Darian of Regina, nephews Dylan & Braxton of Mission, B.C., grandparents Bob & Eileen Young of Moose Jaw. Shawn was born in Regina and was raised on the farm at Stony Beach. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1981 where he finished his education. In 1989 he moved to the Abbotsford area, where he had resided ever since. Shawn loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, playing darts and cribbage. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and close friends. A graveside service will be held in Bethune at a later date.
